Life in Alaska

An Alaskan participates in the Eskimo blanket toss at the Fur Rondy. When Rondy heats up, even cold weather doesn't diminish the fun.

From it's origins in the frontier days of trappers gathering in early Anchorage to the Running of the Reindeer in 2008, Fur Rendezvous is the highlight of our winter season. There are events for everyone to enjoy. Carnival rides create a festive backdrop for the traditional Eskimo blanket toss. Mushers of all ages participate in races through the snow covered streets of downtown. Snow and ice are carved into frozen works of art to be enjoyed by the crowds who brave the cold temperatures of February in Alaska and experience all the fun of RONDY!
