Many boarders ride to the top of the pass in pickup trucks. A designated driver finds them at the bottom, where they all jump in and head up the pass again. |

The Little Susitna River flows from the Talkeetna mountains in the Hatcher Pass area. At the top of the road lies Independence Mine State Historical Park. (The Independence Mine was the largest gold producer in the Willow Creek Mining District.) |

You can drive right to Independence Mine State Park in summer, but in November you need skis or snowshoes to get up close. |
