Did you know…

There are approximately 200-300 moose in the Anchorage Bowl year-round, and about 700-1,000 in the winter. (ADF&G Div. of Wildlife Conservation)

We Alaskans are SO crazy about moose that we even have a celebration in honor of their poop! That's right, the Talkeetna Moose Dropping Festival is held each July complete with a parade, street musicians and of course every kind of moose you can think of.

Life in Alaska

handsome moose
The bull moose is a handsome creature. This one seems to know he looks good.

Anchorage’s Big Wild Life can be experienced on the many miles of bike and walking trails in the city. The moose enjoy the trails, too!

Knock, Knock - Moose Who?  Even in the middle of Anchorage you never know when wildlife might come knocking at your front door.  We first spotted this moose when he decided to cross Northern Lights Boulevard (one of the busiest east/west arteries in Anchorage) right in front of us.  A chase ensued as we decided to follow the bull on his ramble through the nearby neighborhood.  It was comical to observe him walking along seemly oblivious to the presence of people and vehicles scurrying out of his way.  After his uneventful stroll through the streets and yards he disappeared silently into the greenbelt bordering the neighborhood.
moose baby calves
Moose cows often seek the safe haven of suburban neighborhoods to give birth and raise their young calves. Grizzlies are a major threat to cows with calves and since bears usually stay away from heavily populated areas - backyards are a great place to hang out!

Sometimes things are not quite what they appear to be at first glance. This “siamese moose” is really two moose that decided to take a run in Eklutna Lake a few minutes later. A bull and his harem weather a fall snowstorm in Denali National Park. --Leanne

We have more moose products than you can shake a stick at! You'll laugh at our "Wait! That's Jim!" magnet. And yes, those are real moose poop nuggets on the earrings. If you like games, we've got moose dice, moose farkel, and the "Moose in the House" game. Be the first on your block with this moose-shaped mailbox flag (replaces standard mailbox flag).
