Description
This artwork is designed and created by Alaskan artist Sue Zajac. Each fish is diecut from original marbled papers and then hand embellished.
The ancient technique of marbling paper requires watercolor paints, caragheenan moss for size, oxgall for tempering the paints, mordanted art papers, correct humidity and temperature, and both soft and distilled waters.
Alaskan Copper River salmon species returning from the Pacific Ocean to spawn in the Copper River of eastern Alaska are the Chinook (king), Sockeye (red), and Coho (silver). Their natural pink tone is a result of carotenoid pigment derived from a diet of insects and crustaceans.
